Deep dives
Longer pieces, written when something deserves the full story — architecture, cloud costs, AI workflows. Quick notes live in weekly learnings. RSS
- 17 Sept 2026 Sunday no longer needs a laptop: the weekly note now compiles itself in GitHub Actions My weekly learnings note was compiled by a Claude Code skill on a Windows scheduled task, which meant a specific laptop had to be awake on Sunday evening. Moving it to a headless run in GitHub Actions took one workflow file, and the first run failed for a reason I am glad it did.
- 15 Sept 2026 I made my CI fail if my site gets slower What Lighthouse is and what a performance budget actually asserts, for people who do not work in frontend. Plus the three things that went wrong: a budget that silently checked nothing, a metric too noisy to gate on, and a bug my own testing could not have found.
- 01 Sept 2026 Chunking strategy for chatbot: stop splitting every 500 characters The default chunking advice is a fixed-size window with overlap. Markdown already tells you where the seams are. Here is the strategy I settled on for my site's retrieval index, why each threshold is what it is, and the failure modes I hit on the way.
- 01 Sept 2026 Teaching my chatbot to read: RAG on Cloudflare's free tier The assistant on this site could name every post I had written and had read none of them. Here is how I replaced prompt stuffing with real retrieval using Cloudflare Vectorize and Workers AI, what it cost (nothing), and the two bugs that ate an evening.
- 27 Aug 2026 Adding Google Analytics, and BigQuery with no billing account Wiring GA4 into an Astro static site: a production-only gtag snippet, the set:html gotcha, linking Search Console, and the part I almost skipped: the BigQuery daily export running in sandbox mode with no billing account attached.
- 25 Aug 2026 Note Log: On-the go weekly notes automation in this website My publishing pipeline had one gap: it only worked at a laptop. So I built Note Log, a local-first notes PWA that syncs to a Cloudflare Worker with a token, and taught my weekly-note workflow to pull from it. Here's why, and how the pieces fit.
- 23 Aug 2026 Setting up Google Search Console for this website My site had a sitemap, RSS and posts, but I had no idea how Google saw any of it. Setting up Google Search Console with a Cloudflare DNS verification, an Astro sitemap and a robots.txt, and why every personal blog should do this on day one.
- 22 Aug 2026 Do visitors actually like the chatbot's answers? Opik feedback scores Tracing tells you what your LLM said, not whether it was any good. Adding thumbs up/down to the site chatbot and recording them as Opik feedback scores — with the trace-ID handshake that makes it work.
- 22 Aug 2026 My workout logger automation in this website Rep Log started as a way to give my AI fitness coach context. Now every saved session also updates the consistency grid on this site - automatically, with an offline queue, a token-authed Worker, and a privacy rule: aggregates only.
- 21 Aug 2026 Pointing a Cloudflare domain at GitHub Pages, explained properly What I learned wiring lokeshnanda.com to a GitHub Pages site: DNS records, the proxy gotcha that blocks HTTPS, and why domain verification matters.
- 21 Aug 2026 The chatbot on this site: Cloudflare Workers, a $5 budget, and Opik tracing How the 'Ask about my work' chat is built and hosted: a Cloudflare Worker behind the static site, three cost guardrails, and LLM monitoring with Opik.
- 21 Aug 2026 How this site ships itself and is always updated How lokeshnanda.com publishes: markdown in a repo, a git push, a pipeline that does the rest — and Claude Code skills that turn rough notes into published pages.
- 10 Jul 2026 I gave my solution architecture practice a memory — with a git repo and Claude Code How a git-based Architecture Hub stops client learnings from dying in chat transcripts: nested context files, reusable standards, and six daily workflows.
- 03 Aug 2023 Cutting cloud costs on GCP: a simple step-by-step guide A systematic approach to finding what actually drives your GCP bill and fixing it — the same method that cut a development environment's costs by more than half.
